Today marked the second time someone has noticed my rainbow ring and asked if I am gay, which then puts to consideration whether I should continue wearing the misunderstood piece. I suppose until I'm single again that it doesn't really matter. It's more amusing than anything, really. While I can't really blame people for being curious, it kind of reminds me of when I was younger and thought that every man with a single earring in his right ear was gay. As if there's this subtle accessory-based code for gayness.

Remember "fag tags?" The little hanger tabs on the backs of shirts from the 80s? (sorry for the explanation of if you already knew but the ear ring thing reminded me of it). Since when did gays get a monopoly on rainbows. Poor gay leprechauns. Poor gay Judy Garland - actually, gays have a monopoly on her too. Alas.

It used to be that having a green carnation in your lapel meant you were gay. Wonder if that will ever come back.

i have never heard of these mythical fag tags. hmmm. my sister would probably know, she's a bit older. wow, there are a lot of other gay "indicators" i was not aware of. also, the color purple was one for a while in grade school. if you were a dude and liked purple, goddamn, you were a fag (or "fruity," which was the common term for us). oh, youth!

when i was in 5th/6th grade or so (in Mobile), the people who had the shirts with that little hanger tab on the back (considering the shirt was just a blue button up, there were plenty of variations. some people had them, others didn't) had "fag tags." man, you would be just completely hounded at lunch if you screwed up and wore a shirt with a fag tag. so, i don't think it's a really older thing, just location.

man, i didn't realize i was using the term "fag" in 5th grade til now. jeez.
